First Paper from Upgraded Paper Machine 1 (PM1)
Strategic investment successfully completed - a major milestone for Natron-Hayat

After months of preparation and close cooperation with Valmet, Natron-Hayat has officially completed the modernization of its Paper Machine 1 (PM1). The final phase of the project concluded in June, exactly as scheduled, culminating in the production of the first roll of paper on 23 June 2025.
This investment included the installation of a new IntelliJet V headbox, IQ dilution profiler, IQ Moisturizer and a fully reconstructed press section. All components are seamlessly integrated through Valmet’s advanced automation system (DNA), ensuring better control, consistency and process efficiency.
The collaboration with Valmet proved to be a key success factor in every stage of the process, from technical planning to implementation. Both teams demonstrated excellent synergy and a shared focus on long-term development in paper manufacturing.
New quality, more capacity, and a focus on sustainable production
The completion of the PM1 upgrade opens new possibilities for Natron-Hayat’s mix kraft paper portfolio. As a result of this investment, the annual production capacity of PM1 will increase from 30,000 to 50,000 tonnes - an important step toward meeting rising market demand across Europe.
Additionally, the project introduces a brand-new paper grade: 60–90 gsm mix kraft paper, produced with 20% to 100% recycled fibre content. This new quality is designed for a wide range of applications including e-commerce, shopping bags, special protective and industrial packaging. Improved fibre distribution, enhanced strength and better moisture uniformity also contribute to visibly higher paper quality across the board.
Alongside diversification, the upgraded PM1 delivers higher energy efficiency and significant quality improvement for RCCM grades in the 80–150 gsm range - further enhancing the mill’s competitive edge in recycled kraft paper production.
This investment represents a significant strategic step forward, positioning Natron-Hayat as a leader in recycled kraft paper production and creating the foundation for a future expansion of PM1 capacity to 70,000 t per year.
Ongoing Optimization of PM1
With the main works now completed, our technical teams are entering the ongoing optimization phase of PM1. Over the coming days, a series of test runs and adjustments will be performed to align the machine’s operation with specific product and quality targets.
These final steps will ensure optimal performance, system stability and readiness for long-term production under full capacity.
